Behind the Scenes in Kitimaat Village
October 1, 2018
During the Fall of 2018, Valard Dive Services played a supporting role in the feature film, Monkey Beach, which was shot in the same setting as the story was written, Kitimat Village. Contracted by a Vancouver-based production company, we took our role as safety divers very seriously.
One of the principal inlets of British Columbia’s coast, the Douglas Channel posed major risks due to its extremely cold-water, ocean currents and strong tides.
Effectively safeguarding the actors, while they were in or near the water, called for preparedness, patience and professionalism. We positioned ourselves on the sidelines, either in the water with our SCUBA systems or on standby in our dive vessel, ready to assist as needed.
What an experience to be a part of the crew who brought Kitimat author Eden Robinson’s supernatural mystery to film in Northwestern BC.
